EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE IN KANSAS
The first reported and confirmed sighting of Eurasian Collared-Dove in Kansas was in 1997 at Goodland in Sherman County. Local residents stated that the birds had been present since spring of 1996. Since then Eurasian Collared-Dove has been reported from 98 of the 105 counties in the state. Nesting has been confirmed in 21 of those 98 and is probable in many others where there seem to be expanding colonies.
Listed below are the reported sightings of ECDO from May 1996 through May 2002. Sightings reported from May 31, 2002 onward will not be listed (116 additional sighting were reported between May 2002 and May 31, 2004) as it is becoming to lengthy. These sightings are recorded in the Seasonal Reports printed in the KOS newsletter “The Horned Lark”.
