COMMON GROUND-DOVE IN KANSAS

Prior to 1988 there were 10 records of Common Ground-Dove, 5 specimens and 5 sight records, (“Birds In Kansas” Vol. I), from Anderson, Wilson, Pottawatomie, Wabaunsee, Lyon, Greenwood, Cowley, McPherson, Barton and Edwards County’s.  Since then there have been 6 additional sight records, listed below.  The bird has been found in 16 counties, primarily in the southern half of the state and with 9 of the 15 in the eastern one third.  There are no records of nesting.

Anyone finding Common Ground-Dove in the state is encouraged to send documentation to KSBIRD-L or me, Lloyd Moore, at ictinia@swbell.net. Updated 31 July 200 4
